Garfield Bulldogs vs. South El Monte Eagles | High School Football Photography by East LA Photographer
There is something special about being back on the sidelines at a Garfield football game.
As a proud Garfield High School alumnus, Class of 2000, photographing the Bulldogs means more to me than simply capturing a football game. Garfield is part of my story, and every time I return with a camera in my hands, I get an opportunity to document another generation of students creating their own memories.
The Garfield Bulldogs took on the South El Monte Eagles in a night filled with football, school spirit, cheer, and community.
More Than the Action on the Field
Sports photography isn’t only about touchdowns and tackles.
It’s about looking beyond the ball and finding the moments that tell the complete story of Friday night football—the anticipation before a play, teammates supporting one another, coaches communicating from the sideline, the crowd reacting, and cheerleaders bringing energy to the stadium.
Those moments are just as important to document.
During this game, I was especially proud to photograph several Garfield cheer alumni I have had the opportunity to know and support over the years. Seeing former students and familiar faces continue representing their school and community is a reminder of why I enjoy documenting local schools.
A photograph may capture only a fraction of a second, but years from now, that image can bring back an entire night.
Photographing the East LA Community
East LA Photographer was created from my love of photography and my connection to the community that raised me.
My goal is to document our student-athletes, cheerleaders, performers, families, schools, and communities with the same professionalism and attention they deserve.
Our students work incredibly hard.
They deserve photographs that make them feel proud of what they accomplished.
Whether I’m photographing a touchdown under the stadium lights, a celebration on the sideline, a cheer routine, or a quiet moment before the next play, I’m always looking for images that tell a story.
Coming Home to Garfield
Being on the Garfield sideline will always feel different.
Long before I was a photographer or a CTE educator, I was a Garfield Bulldog.
Returning now with years of professional photography experience gives me an opportunity to give something back to the school and community that were part of my own journey.
That’s what makes nights like this special.
It isn’t simply Garfield vs. South El Monte.
It’s another chapter in the story of our students and our community—and I’m grateful that I get to help preserve a small part of it through photography.
Once a Bulldog, always a Bulldog.
